A study comparing methods directly in MS is so far lacking. Drawing a conclusion from the body of published studies is difficult due to the heterogeneity of patient groups, and of the software packages used for segmentation. GM atrophy seems to be unevenly distributed across the brain in MS, with possible preference for insular cortex and thalamus, but studies disagree regarding not only the anatomical distribution of GM atrophy, but also regarding the clinical correlations of GM atrophy.
